Daytime Classes

APPLICATIONS FOR NON-CREDIT MODULES IN AUTUMN 2024 are now open. Scroll Down for more information.

Open to all UEA students, the Daytime Language Programme offers you the unique opportunity to take a module as part of or outside of your degree.

Daytime language modules can be taken for credit or non-credit as follows:

Credit-bearing

The Daytime Language Programme offers a range of credit-bearing language modules to all UEA students. Please check your optional modules in your Course Profile and enrol if you would like to take one as part of your degree course. If you don’t see the language module you would like to take in your Course Profile, please talk to LTS or your Course Director to gain advice. All credit-bearing modules are free.

Please note that you must enrol in a module that is appropriate to your linguistic competence – for example you cannot enrol in a Beginners module if you have already been studying the language for many years. If you enrol in a module that is too easy (or too hard) for you, you be required to leave it within the first few weeks of term. Please email the Module Organiser of module you have selected if you have doubts, and fill in the Self Declaration of Language Level form they will send you at the beginning of term.

Non-credit

If the timetable of the module you are interested in is compatible with your own, you can choose to study any language of your choice in a variety of levels as a non-credit student. Non-credit students do not need to take the final summative assessments and the module will not appear on your transcript, however, your attendance and engagement in the classes and module are essential.

Please note, students can take ONE non-credit module per semester.

How to Apply as a non-credit student:

When you've chosen a module from the list below, you must first check the timetable on Timetabler and ensure it does not clash with your degree programme timetable. Advice on finding modules on Timetabler can be found here.  Further guidance can be found on the portal.

If you would like to discuss which level you should take, please contact the Module Organiser or ulp@uea.ac.uk.

Applications are now open for the autumn 2024 term.

Applications for autumn 2024 are now open and will close at 12pm on Thursday 19 Sept.

availability

  • It is important to note that these modules are shared with students taking them as part of their degrees; they will be given priority during enrolment.

  • Non-credit places are limited and allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.

  • In the autumn term, module enrolment will take place at the end of Welcome Week and beginning of week one. You will be contacted via email if you have been enrolled and expected to attend classes from week one, but the modules may not appear on your timetable until the end of week one.

  • Each student can take ONE free module per semester, subject to availability.

FEES

  • All non-credit modules are FREE for UEA Students.

Groups

  • For Beginner’s and Intermediate modules, you need to be able to attend one SEMINAR and one ORAL; you do not need to be in the same group for both. Please check your timetables once available and let us know if there is a specific group that fits with your timetable.

  • Please bring your campus card with you to the first class.

Work ethic

  • Non-credit students attending these modules are expected to put in as much effort as credit students by attending regularly, participating in group work and homework tasks and sitting any formative assessments tests.

  • If a non-credit student misses two consecutive weeks of classes (seminar and oral) with no justification, they will be contacted to ask if they would like to be withdrawn from the module. If no reply is received within 7 days, they will be automatically removed from the module.

‘Graduates who are unable to demonstrate life skills in today’s workplace environment are at a distinct disadvantage securing the best jobs and even their chosen career. This is a fabulous scheme and one worthy of recognition equipping graduates with the ability to demonstrate a broader view of life and of the need for additional skills would make them not only more employable but also more rounded individuals.’ - UEA Award Employer Consultation

‘I particularly wanted to get behind the UEA Award because it gives Enterprise the chance to help support students from a wide range of different backgrounds. We’ve worked with other universities on similar initiatives in the past and seen the benefits first-hand – both in terms of helping students realise their full potential and in preparing them for applications and interviews with graduate recruiters like ourselves.’ - Enterprise Rent-a-Car
